Recipe: Foraged Goldenrod Tea - FarmSteady

Waking up with a sore throat is never fun. And in late August, when you're desperately trying to wring out every drop of summer, it feels especially cruel. Luckily a backyard field of goldenrod was there to remind me the universe wasn't actually out to get me - and that it was time for a tea party instead.

Prep
10 min
Makes
2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2-3 goldenrod sprigs
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • honeyoptional

Directions

  1. Cut the top 6-12" of the goldenrod, a mix of open (and soon to open) flowers and leaves are great. Pass on plants that are fully closed or have wilted flowers.

  2. Place goldenrod in a jar or tea pot, pour over boiling water and cover.

  3. Let steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink as is, or sweeten with honey.

  • I am in Alabama and the golden rods are beginning to open up. I am 76 and started making tea last year after seeing on you tube. My kidneys cleared up and I felt better. I have arthritis real bad. The only problem I didn’t dry enough and run out two months ago. I plan on picking next week the blooms will be open. To day is 9-14-23. Thanks for your great information. I had known idea you could do this and it really helps your health. I live in the country and it’s all around me. Thanks A Million and God Bless.
